I — The Practice
The practice was established in 2018 following a private commission to address a teenager's birthday party. The teenager has since gone on to underperform expectations in three professions. The practice maintains, as a matter of principle, that early realism produces better adults.
Payson Wake holds standard credentials for one-to-one discouragement coaching and is a member of the Worshipful Society of Critical Address (1978). His work is informed by the conviction that the modern subject is encouraged too often, by too many, with too little discernment, and that the resulting confidence is unearned and structurally unstable.
The practice operates from a small office in London and a larger summer studio in Salt Lake, where most pet engagements take place. Mr Wake conducts all primary sessions personally. He does not employ associates, and has no plans to. The practice respectfully declines commissions to demotivate small businesses for the purpose of acquisition, weddings of clients under the age of 21, or — by his stated preference — gerbils.

II — Services
Each engagement is bespoke. Fees reflect the scale of the subject, the depth of pre-existing confidence, and the resilience of the support network surrounding them. Discretion is included as standard.
N° 01
Pre-game speeches, halftime addresses, kickoff company all-hands, and conference keynotes. Calibrated to reduce collective morale by between 47 and 83 percent within twelve minutes. Audiences exceeding two hundred attendees are subject to a small per-head surcharge.

Calibrated for clients aged 4 through 14. Suitable for school plays, science fairs, soccer practices, and the unveiling of crayon-based works of art. Includes the legendary "You are not as creative as you think you are" protocol, delivered with a kindness that makes the assessment unrecoverable.

Best-man and maid-of-honour speeches expressly engineered to ensure the marriage commences from a position of realistic expectations. Available as a standalone toast or as part of a fuller reception address (twenty minutes maximum, by considered choice).

Eight-week intensives for clients with persistent confidence issues — that is, too much of it. Each session is conducted in person at the London office. Tissues are made available only in the final week. The discipline of the programme is precisely this.

The undoing of accumulated damage from motivational speakers, life coaches, productivity podcasts, certain elementary-school teachers, and well-meaning aunts. Conducted as a structured deprogramming. Average client recovers a realistic self-assessment within four weeks.

III — Counsel
From the practice's correspondence file. Permissions secured. Names withheld at the request of the clients, who have been demoted in their own estimation since.
